M
ost people know that mother bears are extremely defensive of their young. Captured in the act of defending her two cubs,
this sow grizzly bear successfully fought off the much larger male in a brief but intense encounter. Interestingly, before the
female drove off the male, each of the cubs, in turn, bluff charged him and then backed off. Then the female took over.
The light spot on the male's right shoulder is where she had swatted him and taken out a clump of fur.
